How does a phone leave the family?

On a member phone: menu, Settings, Your family plan, Leave this family, then confirm on the same card. It asks twice, and no code is needed.

The learner selected on that phone stays there on the free plan. The other learners stay safe with the family. The family owner sees that the phone left. Coming back takes a join code.

An owner phone cannot leave. It can only close the family (see How do I delete the family account and all its data?).
